Birds Eye Chillies

A tiny powerhouse of heat! Birds Eye Chillies are compact, fiery little plants that produce lots of small, upright chillies bursting with flavour. Perfect for spicing up Asian, African, and Thai dishes, these chillies can be picked green for a sharp kick or left to ripen red for an even hotter punch. Fresh, dried, or ground into chilli powder, they’re a must-have for any chilli lover.

Harvest

June to October — pick when the chillies are swollen, glossy, and vibrant.

Growing Instructions

Planting: 45cm apart in a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. One plant per pot is ideal.
Position: Best grown in a greenhouse, but can survive in a conservatory or sunny patio spot (though yields will be smaller outdoors).
Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry spells, but avoid soggy soil.
Support: Once plants reach around 30cm, stake gently as the chillies grow.
Feeding: Only feed once 2–3 chillies are forming — not before!

Top Tips

Hands Off: Wash your hands immediately after handling chillies — the heat lingers!
Warm Feet: Chillies hate cold roots, so grow in pots or grow bags for faster soil warming.
Encourage Growth: If only one chilli is forming, pick it to encourage more to grow.
Pick Regularly: Keeps the plant productive and your spice rack full.
