CUCAMELON

Cute, quirky, and incredibly productive — cucamelons are one of the easiest and most rewarding plants to grow! These rampant trailing vines produce masses of grape-sized fruits that look like miniature watermelons, with a fresh cucumber flavour and a hint of lime. A fun and unusual addition to salads, and just as at home popped into a glass of gin and tonic for a refreshing twist.

HARVEST

June to November, when fruits are grape-sized and firm.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

Planting: Space 15–20cm apart in well-prepared soil in a sunny (above 16°C), sheltered position once all frosts have passed. Each pot contains 1–3 plants.
Where to Grow: Suitable for outdoors in a warm spot.
Training: Can be left to trail along the ground, but best results come from training up a trellis, fence, stake, wire, or string. Gently guide them upwards — no need to remove side shoots.
Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry spells.
Feeding: Only begin feeding once you see the first few cucamelons forming — never before.
Maintenance: Remove any yellow or dead leaves as the plant grows.

TOP TIPS

Pick Often: Harvest regularly to encourage a long, continuous cropping season.
Avoid Manure: Do not use farmyard manure, as it may contain hormone weed killer residues that can seriously damage your plants.
Let Them Climb: Training upwards improves airflow, keeps fruits clean, and makes harvesting easier.
