Harvest

August to October. When tubers are fully developed and the foliage begins to yellow.

Growing Instructions

Planting: Space 40cm apart in well-drained soil.

Acclimatisation: Gradually harden off your plants over a week after the last frost before planting outside.

Position: Sweet potatoes thrive in warm conditions—ideal in a greenhouse or outdoors with soil warmed using black plastic or a cloche.

Watering & Care: Keep soil consistently moist until plants are established, especially in dry weather.

Spacing: Expect vines to spread up to 3m, so allow plenty of room to grow.

Top Tips

Versatile Cooking: Young leaves can be cooked like spinach, while tubers are perfect roasted, boiled, mashed, or as chips.

Warmth is Key: The warmer the soil, the better the yield—greenhouse cultivation often produces the best results.

Regular Harvesting: Lift carefully to avoid damaging the tubers, and store in a cool, dry place to prolong shelf life.
