Meet the F1 Hunter Squash — a vigorous, high-yielding variety that’s bursting with flavour and personality! This adventurous plant loves to roam and will happily sprawl across your garden, rewarding you with an abundance of sweet, deep-orange squashes that are smooth, rich, and packed with goodness. With small seed cavities and firm flesh, they’re perfect for roasting, soups, or storing for those cosy winter meals.
September to October, once the skin is thick and the stem has dried.
• You can also pick young for tender, smaller squashes with a milder flavour.
• Planting: Space 100cm apart in well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot.
• Training: Let them trail along a wall, fence, or even a compost heap — or grow vertically on a trellis with netted support for the fruits.
• Pruning: Once the plant has 5–7 leaves, pinch out the tip to encourage fruit growth.
• Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry spells.
• Feeding: Only start feeding once 2 or more fruits have begun to form — not before!
• Space Saver: Train plants up a trellis to keep paths clear and fruits clean.
• Storage Star: Cure harvested squashes in the sun for a week to harden their skins, then store somewhere cool and dry.
• Sweet Success: The more sunshine they get, the sweeter the flesh will be!
