Harvest

August to spring — lift when roots are firm, or leave in the ground over winter to extend your harvest.

Planting: Space 30cm apart in firm, well-drained soil.
Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry spells to avoid splitting and woody skins.
Harvesting: Lift and use within a week for best flavour.

Top Tips

Overwintering: Leave swedes in the ground to enjoy fresh roots well into winter.
Soil Care: Firm, well-drained soil prevents split and tough skins.
Flavour: Harvest promptly for sweet, tender flesh.
