Butterhead Lettuce – Classic Variety

A long-time favourite among gardeners, this compact butterhead lettuce produces very shiny, bright green leaves with a semi-open, heavy, voluminous head and a well-formed base. Tender, flavourful leaves make it ideal for salads and sandwiches.

Harvest:

May to November – pick as needed for fresh, homegrown leaves throughout the season.

Growing Instructions:

  • Spacing: Plant 30cm apart.

  • Position: Sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil.

  • Watering: Keep well-watered while establishing and during dry spells to prevent bolting.

Top Tip:

  • Sow or plant every 3 weeks for a steady, continuous harvest.
  • If your cut lettuce starts to wilt, revive it by placing it in a bowl of iced water – it’ll perk right up.
