Witkiem Manita Broad Bean

A fast-growing, early cropping favourite that delivers generous yields of smooth, tender beans bursting with flavour! Producing sturdy pods filled with 4–6 creamy-white beans, it is perfect for steaming, mashing, or freezing to enjoy later in the year. Reliable, easy to grow, and one of the first broad beans to harvest in the season!

Harvest
Around 12 weeks after planting, once pods reach around 20cm long. Start picking from the bottom of the plant upwards for the best-quality beans.

Growing Instructions

• Planting: Space plants 30cm apart in well-drained soil, in a sunny but sheltered position.

• Support: As plants grow taller, support them with pea sticks, trellis, or twiggy branches to keep pods upright and easy to harvest.

• Watering: Keep well watered until established and during dry weather — consistent moisture is key for plump pods.

• Feeding: Apply a liquid feed every two weeks during flowering and pod set for strong, healthy growth.

• Pests: Once the first beans appear, pinch out the growing tip to deter blackfly.
